The title of this work references a specific mandala found in Vajrayana Buddhism. I won't waste words trying to describe it when it can easily be found on the internet. The form of this work is similar to a Vajra Mandala in terms of the density and complexity of the musical lines. While it gets to be very rhythmically dense and complex at different moments, the melodic and harmonic content is quite simple. It is in a form of the Phrygian Mode. However, you will only find the tonic note, C accurately represented by today's standard 12 note equal temperament.

There are 4 versions of this piece. Each one uses a different microtonal scale.
A: 5-Limit; 1/1, 16/15, 6/5, 4/3, 3/2, 8/5, 9/5, 2/1.
B: 11-Limit; 1/1, 33/32, 7/6, 4/3, 3/2, 99/64, 7/4, 2/1.
C: 13-Limit; 1/1, 13/12, 16/13, 4/3, 3/2, 13/8, 24/13, 2/1.
D: 19-Limit; 1/1, 17/16, 19/16, 4/3, 3/2, 51/32, 57/32, 2/1.

Versions A and D are close enough to 12-Tone Equal Temperament to sound fairly normal to those who are not used to microtonality. B and C, however, are quite pungent sounding (even to me).

In all cases the theory behind this music is of secondary concern to its composer. My intention is to present a piece of music that can produce a wide range of listening phenomena.
